MICROSOFT WORD ONLINE

COMS 491 -  2 Semester Credits

MACINTOSH OR WINDOWS PLATFORM

DESCRIPTION:

Microsoft Word is a word processing program you can use to efficiently produce professional looking documents, such as letters, reports, web pages, newsletters and essays.  Word offers many timesaving features to help you edit a document.  You can add or delete, rearrange paragraphs, and check for spelling and grammar errors.  Using formatting features, such as tables or drawing, You can improve the appearance of your word processing documents.

OBJECTIVES:

Editing:
Word offers many time-saving features to help you edit text in a document.  You can add or delete text, rearrange paragraphs and check for spelling and grammar errors.  Word remembers the last changes you made to a document, so you can undo changes you have made.

Formatting:
You can format a document to enhance the appearance of the document.  You can use various font sizes, styles and colors to make important text stand out.  You can also use bullets to separate items in a list, add page numbers of center text.

Creating tables and working with graphics:
You can create tables to neatly display information in a document.  You can se one of Word's ready-to-use designs to enhance the appearance of a table.

You will become familiar with the following features of Word.

MANUAL:

You do not need a manual for this class.  I will send your assignments weekly (every Monday)  and they are due by the next week.  If you are not able to send an assignment on time, do not worry.  Just write me and we will work things out. 

AUDIENCE:

The class is designed for users who are proficient using a mouse and are familiar with the fundamentals of using the Macintosh Computer or the fundamentals of PC Windows. Students must have the software MS Excel have connection to an Internet Service Provider and be familiar with using E-mail.

EVALUATION:

 The evaluation will be based on student participation via Internet/email, student participation and successfully completing  skillbuilders  assigned with each lesson.  The course utilizes a mastery learning approach.  Ongoing individualized assistance will be available through online messaging and/or voice phone conferencing.
