WORD PAD
by
Sharon Bond
WordPad is the name of the word processing program that comes with Windows. It’s simple enough to master in a short time, yet has the features you need for most day-to-day word processing tasks. This lesson introduces you to some of the most important WordPad procedures. You will learn how to type and correct the text of a document, select typographical effects to make your text easier to read, and format paragraphs in your document. This application does not have a spell checker. If you do not have any trouble with this lesson, you will use a more sophisticated Word Processing program to work with. What I have taught you can be applied to Microsoft Works, Microsoft Word, etc. You will also see how to save this file, attach and e-mail back to me.

22. With the entire document still selected, drag the RIGHT indent marker to the 5-inch measurement along the Ruler. If your ruler is not

Ruler. This will move the bulleted list over to ½”. Click your mouse away from the highlighted text to turn off the highlight.
IMPORTANT: If you start to tear out your hair using bullets........ just bag this idea and indent.
24.
VERY, VERY IMPORTANT:::::
Choose File on the Menu Bar at the top and select Save AS.
1. FILE NAME: Type your last name and WordPad. Ex. (BondWordPad)
2. IMPORTANT: Note: Windows will allow you to save your document as a Rich Text Format. The reason for this format is so both platforms (PC and Macintosh) can read the attachment sent. SAVE AS TYPE: Select RICH TEXT FORMAT and save to your hard drive. I always use (Save As) because it allows me to have control of the computer. If you use Save the computer will save where the settings are set.
You want to make an IMAGE map in that brain of yours where your files will be stored. If you do not, saving and opening documents can become an unpleasant
experience. Notice your file name will be showing in the Title Bar.
25. Open your E-mail software and send this document as an attachment to just me this time. To attach a file: press the Attach icon and open the file you saved (My Documents or your favorite folder) and send it to me. Be sure to address your Subject Field.
The reason for all of this is.......it is out of control. Choosing Rich Text Format is more successful is the reason. We are a captive audience!!!!!!.
When files are sent via e-mail , the format must be TEXT. If it is not in a text format and I am sending the document to a Macintosh user or even in the PC World many word processing packages are not compatible and the message will show on their computer as a bunch of garbage and they will not be able to read it.
Most of my lessons I type them using Microsoft Word and then just copy and paste to my Netscape mail messages. This way I know everyone can read the lessons rather than sending as an attached file.
IMPORTANT TIP: If you are not sure how a message is going to send, send it to yourself. I do this all the time.
Have a super week,
Sharon
