How to Use Windows

COMS 491 - 2 Semester Credit

Description
 
This class will help students explore the software resources that Windows provides. They will master the basics—the Start Button, the Taskbar, the Desktop, and a variety of tools designed to help them adjust the Windows environment to their work patterns. Students will learn how to use Windows programs to accomplish specific tasks on their computer. How to produce documents, keep records, design graphics, manage schedules, perform calculations, send e-mail, and more. They will learn what Windows does and how it works.

  • Getting Started with Windows

  • Working with Programs
  • Changing the Settings

  • Using the Clipboard

  • Creating Artwork
  • Installing New Hardware and Software
  • Working with Briefcase
  • Sending and receiving Faxes
  • Experiencing Multimedia
  • Making your Computer Accessible
  • Working with Disks
  • Optimize your Computer

Audience:

This class is designed for either the educational classroom or the world of business. Participants must have connection to an Internet Service Provider and be familiar with using e-mail. Students must be using either Windows 95 or Windows 98.

Manual::

You do not need a manual for this class.  I will send your assignments weekly (every Monday)  and they are due by the next week.  If you are not able to send an assignment on time, do not worry.  Just write me and we will work things out. 

Audience:

The class is designed for users who are proficient using a mouse and are familiar with the fundamentals of using the Macintosh Computer or the fundamentals of PC Windows. Students must have the software MS Excel have connection to an Internet Service Provider and be familiar with using E-mail.

Evaluation:

 The evaluation will be based on student participation via Internet/email, student participation and successfully completing  skillbuilders  assigned with each lesson.  The course utilizes a mastery learning approach.  Ongoing individualized assistance will be available through online messaging and/or voice phone conferencing.
